What We Do

Seed saving and plant breeding used to be common place on the farm or home garden. In the 21st century, it is a lost art.  The Northern Landrace Project aims to bring back these skills and build a collective community around breeding and improving crops for less hospitable regions of Canada. We will achieve this by working together to trial and improve existing crops and breed new varieties of crops better suited for our regions.

Who We Are

We are an Alberta, Canada based network of volunteer growers looking to improve the food system and crop availability of their region. The Northern Landrace project and its initiatives are based on the idea of participatory plant breeding. This is plant breeding by the people and for the people, the process is in the hands of gardeners and farmers who will benefit from it.
